Duuuuuude, I've been in knife shows that didn't have that much eye candy. Got a Case connection, know an old collector or descendent of the Case family or somehting?

Snagged a little S&M the other day, just noticed the fine scrolled engraving on the liners on the inside. Interesting. Doesn't help cleaning, hope moisture doesn't hide in there, then corrode. Never seen that before but what a sweet, solid, smooth whittler it is.

'99 Case Swell Center/Balloon Whittler. Love these small, rounded end pocket friendly, several blade option packages.

Camillus finally came calling, had to follow, couldn't resist, guess I'm too easy. 1960-76 #72 Whittler. Thought it was a Stockman when I found it, but it's a different style whittler. Sweet size 3 5/8 closed, sweet action, lock up, snap, finish, centering, long pull, blade choice, everthing but the plastic scales but will live with it for the rest. Great knife, love the age.

Very nice Camillus 72. Probably post-1976, because that's right about when they stopped pinning the handles and went to the molded post method of mounting the handles. Looks to be in factory condition. How could you ask for anything more?

Thanks for complimenting Jerry. Thought the stamp looked like '60-76 more than those after, but hey, just going with my eye and BForums pictures. But I'm no expert or well versed. First Camillus here. I could ask for more though. Looks like some clown ground down the kick to make the main blade lay deeper/flatter when closed. Now right in the middle of the cutting edge is a nice tiny ding from hitting the back spring at the swell center. Didn't mention that in the description. Course not. And anyone know if the cutting edge is supposed to curve back inward slightly towards the spine rather than run straight? Is that a factory edge or another mod? Never tried to sharpen a blade with one side looking sabre and the other looking flat. More difficult that I guessed.

I-Man, you'll find that relying on a Camillus tang stamp to date one of their knives will lead you down a rosy path to incorrect assumptions. That's a paraphrase of what Tom Williams (30+ year Camillus employee and recently deceased) had to say on the subject. I'm convinced that particular tang stamp was used before 1960 and after 1975 and in parallel with other tang stamps towards the beginning and end of it's life. (Why don't we see any Camillus tang stamps laying claim to the years between 1955 and 1960?) You'll see it said that Camillus made users, not collectables and that is true except for the last 15-20 years of their existence.

By the way, I don't claim to be an expert on Camillus knives by a long shot. I have however, acquired a workman's knowledge of the brand, post WWII.

That is still a very nice knife. IMO

Well well well, so we can't believe the stamp either? Hate it when that happens. Alright, good to know, thanks for the light shedding, so much for my research, next to worthless. Thought I could check it out and figure the date, no. Thought it was a Stockman, not. Thought the Company called it a Whittler, some say not a whittler. Hey man we're going down the rabbit hole here, and it's getting deep.

Welcome to the world of knives. The initiation can be a little rough at first but over time, you get used to it. Kind of like your first shot of whisky.

Nice 80's Justin,that was my favorite pattern too,had three nice ones,but traded all but one in on a farmers jack collection.

The USA and 9 dot I traded,the 10 dot was the first knife I bought to collect in 1979 off a board in a Hdwe. store.I kept it.

I've got an old worn XX ,albeit with nice handles,I carried for quite a while.I've also got a '72 I carried for a while that I was my first trade(got it from 1967redrider).Got an assortment of other later mint 80's including the gold scrolled set of Case whittlers and the 2nd cut stag one.
