Belated Hello
Been lurking for some time now. This is the best forum I've found. There are some really knowledgeable people here and I've enjoyed going back over the old posts and getting acquainted.
I'm from Maine and I can truly say that this is a wasteland as far as knife collecting goes. I'm an accumulator as opposed to a real collector and my collection of 100 or so knives has absolutely no focus. I buy what I like and can find and more often than not this means newer, traditional, natural handled knives. I tend toward Bluegrass Winchesters, Queen, and Schatt and Morgans.
Most of what I buy comes from on-line vendors. The only knives to be found here are busted up junkers at flea markets in a rain soaked cigar box! Really strange given New England's knifemaking history.
I really enjoy this site and look forward to posting more often.

Hello
Bill2000:
Welcome aboard, a neat place you have found.
Regarding those junkers in the rain soaked cigar boxes. You might be pleasently surprized by purchasing a box and checking the tang stamps. Believe it or not some real treasures can be found. Especially in your part of the country.

Ringmaster: Waterville is about an hour north from here so it's a possibility. Do you know the location of the show? Fall is usually spectacular here but this year its kind of flat because of the dry summer and fall.
Mossdancer: Believe me I've pawed through those boxes. Unless you collect rusted, busted bladed $1.00 Imperials theres nothing worth buying. Really a puzzle in a region known for knife manufaturing in the past and a state with a strong outdoor tradition.
I'd like to post some pictures of my knives but I'll have to figure out my camera, find a hosting site, and figure out the posting process. Hope you're not too old cause it could take a while!

Thanks JR, now to get some pictures that I havn't stolen from the net! By the way, how the heck did you get the info on a Maine show? Gun shows I've been to up here havn't been to good in the knife department. The guns, though, are a different story! Love things louder than a knife!
