Dogg, I know that's your "bullet stump", but it sure looks different - kinda icy - cool. OH

Been ratting lately and getting about a rat a night. Then a few days ago something started tripping the traps, taking the bait, and not getting caught. Ghost rat? Very irritating. Guess I'm just feeding and encouraging them with treats. Took the Viper with me to check traps in case I have to stab one.

Thanks, Ivoryman. Nice Viper you got there. ::tu::

My grandpa used to trap rats. Rats are pretty smart and if they see it enough they'll learn how to deal with traps by grabbing the bait then moving fast. My grandpa used to alternate between the traps you have there and flypaper. They'd get stuck to the flypaper, and he'd take care of them in the morning. Good luck with your rat problem.

I've been toting this old 1974 Case 6217 loom fixer about everyday this week. I had to vaccinate a litter of puppies tonight and used it to cut open the vaccine packs. I snapped a quick pic.

Good to know Dave, have to try other methods. You think they are faster than the trap snap? If so they are lightning rats. Doesn't take much force to trigger the trap and they slam down fast.

We have a mouse problem. Those traps spring if you look at them wrong. But the peanut butter gets cleaned off pretty as you please.

It has more to do with the rat figuring out the right angle to grab the bait rather than pure speed, though they are pretty fast. Some will figure out how to trip the trap without being in harm's way. They collect the bait afterwards.

Very good to know Dave, thanks. I will change up the angles and put out back to back traps. Where did you get all the rat psychology? Thanks for sharing it.

It was my major in college. Some came from what my grandpa told me. The rest from watching countless nature documentaries over the years.

Some other rat facts: they can squeeze through cracks as narrow as a pencil and holes as small as a quarter. They can also survive a 50-foot fall without injury.

Nice Camillus Producer, just grabbed a #72 for cheap online and it looks very similar. No expert here, but according to another online knife forum the tang on the one coming is 1960-76. Never had Camillus, can't wait to compare them and check it out. Two cents welcome, pics coming in a few days.
