Walsh & Blackburn Knife

At the knife club meeting tonight a guy came in with a smaller - maybe 3 1/2" dog groomer knife made by Walsh & Blackburn as far as we could tell. The tang stamp was faint so the name isn't certain. Has gorgeous bone handles and we were thinking maybe English but no one knew. Don't see anything close to this on Google or Ebay. Anyone have any information? Didn't have a camera to take a picture but I'll try to get one next month and post it. Appreciate any information.

That was probably the name of the company that contracted to have the knife made. Hopefully Iron Hoarder or Smiling Knife will see this post and comment.Have you tried posting a question on the British Blades forum?

Here is a related knife I'm sure. Given the marking on this knife I would guess that Walshs LTD Blackburn could be a manufacturer or contractor of the knife. Not my knife.

Without having seen a photo of the knife referenced above, I'm thinking it's probably very similar, if not identical, to the several English "Spratt's" dog food knives we've seen.

Several of those have been posted on AAPK in the past.

I don't know who made them, but they appear sometimes with blade etches ID'ing a distributor or outfitter, etc.

Bone handles generally show a definite regular pattern in their jigging, almost like crude checkering.

They have two stripping blades and are similar to Remington's dog grooming knives, but not as nicely done.

Seeing the other knife posted I'm now thinking that Blackburn could be either a town or a district in England. Need to see a pic of the tang stamp and knife.

Yes, I'm sure that Blackburn is part of an address. Most likely the city where the business was located.

Thanks for the information. I'm sure the owner will be happy to find this out. I'll do my best to get a picture next month and post it here. It's a very nice looking knife.

Nice looking knife and that bone is much more nice than any I've ever seen on a Spratt's groomer knife.
