That's the back of a peanut bag someone sent to me (empty) along with something else. Sorry, I failed to record the source. Cutty, maybe??? He's from Gawguh. It's a cool bag.

Thanks Lyle. Seems like it never ends though. There's always one or two elusive old gals to keep life interesting and the collector on the hunt.

Re: camillus #72
Here was a very recent local find... I think this is the "Holy Grail" for the Camillus 72 if I understood the previous 70 pages of this thread
- short line stamp with 72 on rear tang, jigged Rogers bone scales and the coping blade by itself (not paired up with the master clip).... Quite honestly I am not a Camillus collector (and this is my first) but when I saw this knife I had heard of the 72 as a whittler though technically not the split spring whittler (I do like whittlers of all kinds).. I couldn't resist those beautiful jigged Rogers bone scales (did some closeup photos of just the front and rear scales) and noticed the short line stamp (1946-1950 as you guys know)... one of those knives that was talking to me!! This is a perfect example of something Charlie and K7Knut posted under the book thread about never having enough books and being familiar with all knives even if they are not along your collecting focus... I'll fondle this one awhile and most likely will keep it but if not will let you guys know... right now I am giving it a gentle cleaning, lube etc - letting some oil sit on a few spots and using the old #2 pencil... but overall the knife has great snap, no wobble, perfect scales, blades in excellent shape with just a few spots to clean... what more can you ask for
.... So did I do good?

I recently came across some Camillus shields and while I'm not sure how many sizes they made, if I have the right one I'll gladly send it if I have the right one.

Re: camillus #72
Excellent find. I have to maintain control to avoid grabbing every one of those bone handle editions I come across. That's what I've come to call, a "first generation" (my terminology). They were only made for approximately one year. The change to the blade compliment we see in the ones made from 1947-200x was made in early 1947.LongBlade wrote:Here was a very recent local find... That is an absolute beauty, Lee. A real treasure.
I will say, though, that long pull looks a little "erratic", If you send it over to me I'll polish the bumps out of it for you. It may take a while.
