"SIMPLY SHOW THE KNIFE"
Saw this on Ebay yesterday and thought we should save it here for posterity's sake.
It's a Griffon Cutlery Works / Germany, equal-end, embossed metal handled penknife that would get its owner a fifty cent discount on a suit or overcoat when simply shown to the merchant, Stoll, Watson & Bergman of 9 Central Square, Youngstown, Ohio.
I assume the knife could be used for that discount more than once.

Really cool knife Charlie. Don't you think that would have been during the early days of the Depression for that 50¢ to have been an incentive.

That is a rare one Charlie! Thanks for posting it. Reminds me of the old ballpark advertising sign "Hit it here, win a free suit".

Re: "SIMPLY SHOW THE KNIFE"
Actually, I was thinking the knife dated from the early 1900's, it's definitely after 1891, due to its "GERMANY" stamp.
Definitely from a time when fifty cents was a considerable discount off the item being purchased.
It's an active Ebay auction, if anyone wants it, look it up there.
I'm surprised K7K, Ray, hasn't posted a half dozen just like it.

Very nice. The first minimum wage was 25 cents. mid 1920,s. So 50 cents was a lot for many.

Seems like a lot of money for a German all metal handle knife, I think you posting the knife here had a lot to do with the final price it attained, nice knife in excellent condition though.
