Nice job.
Be careful, customizing knives is far more addictive than collecting them!

Re: old case electrician's knife restore
I assemble the knife and put it into a knife vise from Jantz: http://www.knifemaking.com/product-p/pv622.htm
It works well to hold the knife while working in the shield.
I use a drop of super glue on the back of the shield & glue it in the correct spot.
I let it dry really good and then scribe around the shield, then scribe deeply.
I use a Foredom and carbide bur to cut out the hole to inlay the shield.
When the shield will fit the hole, I glue it in with 5 minute epoxy.
Pretty simple but it takes some time to get the hang of it.
Watch out the first time you work on wood, the harder grain will pull the bur to the side.

that's almost exactly how I do it only I normally use a pin (or pins) in addition to the epoxy.

Re: old case electrician's knife restore
I use a pin too if the shield was originally pinned. If it was not pinned I usually just epoxy them. Modern shields that were not pinned and have a name on them, like Uncle Henry, would be hard to pin w/o messing up the name. Coined shields (like Boker) are another type of shield I don't pin unless it was pinned originally.muskrat man wrote:

Re: old case electrician's knife restore
When I want to pin a shield, but not through the shield, I solder some pin material to the back of the shield, then peen it on the back side of the liner. You'll never see it, but it is there to add that extra hold on the shield.muskrat man wrote:orvet wrote:I use a pin too if the shield was originally pinned. Re: old case electrician's knife restore
thats how most of the modern S&M, queen and GEC knives are done works well as long as you make the pin long enough
