Great pickups, dogg, Joe.
Posting this one I just picked up today. Tested C61050 L SAB. I had been looking for a nice one of these. This one shows some use but I like it a lot. Good old honest knife in my opinion!!

You came back with a bang Slomo. Great knives. I like the 62087 pattern, have a XX in my pocket right now.Slomo wrote:It's been a while since I've posted but I do still observethought I'd share a few of my recent pickups.
Are these for collection or carry? Either way, great 47 HP SSP and 32!

QTCut5 don't know much what to say but WOW!!!!!!! both of the knives are amazing and the carvings are something else. I know you have to be proud of the knives and carvings, I would be.

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
What a pair Q, incredible blues and patterns in there, got to be the best looking Seahorse and Cheetah I've ever seen, better than tie-dye or a Monet. Thanks for showing off the shell fish. Amazing little filter feeders. People might think you're a serious collector or something now. Wow.QTCut5 wrote:A couple of Case Bros. I recently acquired for the abalone collection. Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
Thanks for the compliments, guys. These two have some of the nicest abalone on them that I've ever seen. I currently have 26 knives in my abalone collection and, believe me, not all abalone is created equal; some has an almost gem-like quality (like these two from Case Bros.) but some others are almost "flat" or "dull" and lack the bright, shimmering color & depth by comparison. Then, of course there's also the synthetic (fake) abalone which doesn't even come close to the genuine article (impo).
Here's a Wharncliffe Copperhead that I had rehandled (as you can see, the guy who did the mod had a real hard time with the shield inlay)
But, he did a decent job on the filework.
Here's the Copperhead mod next to a Cheetah Cub that was also rehandled by the same guy (notice the difference in the abalone on this Cub compared to the Case Bros. It's not bad, but seems to lack a certain degree of "sparkle" compared to the Case Bros. Cheetah) Cheers & Aloha,

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
26 Abalones? Man you are a serious collector, and putting pressure on the species, might be endangered when you get through with them huh? Couldn't have given their lives for a greater cause than those knife scales by golly.QTCut5 wrote:Thanks for the compliments, guys. That's a copy on that good buddy 10-4 come on? Well they definitely got the ivories outclassed in color and design scheme, must have been some of those hippies involved in designing them, some kind of natural tie-dye, or Salvadore Dali thing, supposed to mess with your mind and give you all kinds of hallucinations and various sensations on the 'ol cerebral cortex, and cerebellum, and ahhh, some other stuff. Yup.QTCut5 wrote:Appreciate your eco-consciousness for the lowly bi-valve...but I don't think they're on the endangered species list quite yet. My elephant ivory collection...now that's a different story (and a topic for a different thread...very sensitive subject for some as an "Ivoryman" surely must know.)

Re: Newest Case Pick-Ups
1920-40 Case Black Lip Pearl, single spear blade w/half stop. All minty with original factory edge, pristine black pearl scales, and solid walk and talk.
Why my grandfather didn't purchase a couple of boxes of these back when they were only $1.00 is beyond me. I would be a very happy and wealthy man today if he had--mostly happy. Hard to believe a knife like this could survive nearly a century and still be in this good of condition. A true piece of art and history.

Q,
I don't believe that knife is genuine. It would be great if it was.
