Case fixed blade stag help

Post by rexstubbins »

Picked this one up today. Been trying to identify the model and haven't had much success. Usually don't pick up fixed blades but I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Previous owner said he got it from a friend that was a police officer and he obtained it from the evidence room and it had been used in a murder. Not sure of the story.

Anyone have any ideas on the model. I think it dates 1940 - 1965 based on the stamp. Blade measures 5-1/2" from tip to guard. Appears to be chromed.

The words vintage and antique are vague. Actually most words are vague. Even the word vague is vague.

An overall length would be more helpful to identifying the model number.

Case model 523-6
If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.

Rex, I could be wrong, but I believe it started life as a six inch blade, which would make it a 523-6. You are correct about the time frame(40-64). The round pommell would likely indicate that it is earlier rather than later, probably late 40's to mid 50's. This is just speculation based on available info that I could dig up. Hope this helps, Tim

.
If that is in fact where it originally came from then you,the seller, and the police officer who originally got it from the evidence room could be in serious trouble. If it was originally,"liberated" from evidence in any type of a crime, the officer could lose his job and very likely his freedom for an unspecified period of time. You and the person you obtained it from would likely be liable for prosecution as well because you had foreknowledge of the crime.Just my opinion folks. Personally I would delete this post as quickly as possible.

knife7nut - The key word is "if". Not sure I believe the guy that sold it to me. Also not sure how I had foreknowledge of the crime if I know after the fact. It's also hearsay.

Wazu - thank you. It looks like the 523-5 on page 358 that shows the "scarce" round pommel.

Perhaps I should have put it another way.I am not a lawyer or even pretend to be totally familiar with the laws but having said that:
Theoretically if someone were to read your post and thought that POSSIBLY a crime had been committed by removing the knife from an evidence room without authorization(the crime I am referring to;not the supposed original crime of murder)and decided to follow through with an investigation that included interviewing you to obtain the name of the person you acquired the knife from;and then went on to find out from them where they obtained it and discovered that it had indeed been removed illicitly;then it is POSSIBLE you could be charged as an accessory after the fact. This could happen due to your mentioning the possibility on the original post and not reporting this to the authorities.
Stranger things have happened in the law believe me.
