Case XXX stamping question
Everytime I go to the flea market I go straight to a friend of mines knife table and we all talk about the knives he has etc.....
And almost everytime someone older will come up and say I have a Case XXX knife.
We alway joke and say "oh yeah we have seen those" . When they leave we talk about how peopel always say that , but we have never seen any.
Case has never showed this in the date stampings so my question is ....
Is there really a case three X stamping and is it some fake stamp????

I hope others chime in on this as it has been a subject of debate before. It is my understanding that CASE only made a limited amount of XXX for speciality group or company. It has never been a standard production. Correct me if I am wrong but I beleive that is what Sargents book says. Of course I have been wrong before but gosh who hasn't I wouldn't buy a XXX

Let me put my 2 cents worth in, Case made 4 models with the XXX stamping they were the 54 trapper, 94 gunboat canoe, 88 congress, 52100 saddlehorn as far as I know these were only produced for the Case Classic's which were sold by Jim Parker, I LOVE the 88 CONGRESS which I have a few of.
Hope this helps

CaseXXX
Hey, yerout, yerright......
The only, LEGITIMATE, XXX Case knives, were made during the Case Classic program.. It is my understanding, that the main reason Mr. Parker had them made was because, he, too, had heard the old "my Grandpa had a triple x Case knife" sooooo many times that he decided to make some. I also understand that there would have been more of them, but the workers at the Case factory didn't feel right, about making them.

Case XXX
Hey, yerout...
I have never seen a 254 trapper with the XXX marking. To my knowledge and according to Jim Parker, John Adams and the Case Classic book, the only ones marked as such, were the 488 congress, the 2100 saddlehorn and the 394 gunboat. If anyone has info on a XXX, 254, I would like to see one, as I own 10 different 254's, which, I believe are still pictured in the Case Classic section. I'm not saying they don't exist, anything is possible in the Classics.
Does anybody have any 254 Classics, for sale or trade? I'm always looking for ones that I don't already have.
Anybody looking for more information on Case Classics should check out the Case Classic Club. Membership is only $10 a year, but the pictures alone are priceless. If you have a copy of the Case Classics book, take good care of it, They are getting harder to find, every day. I feel fortunate, that I have 3(greedy, ain't I?). One is signed by Jim Parker, one is signed by Mr. Parker and Jim Penley(the co-author) and the 3rd is one of the 100 leather-bound, signed by Mr. Parker. I believe there are still some for sale on Amazon.com, but they're not cheap.

Re:
Perhaps someone could help this newbie. Got a Case XX, USA, one dot. for Father's day. It is an older model 32048SP yellow slim line trapper in excellent shape. I use to carry these types 40 yrs ago but have lost all the yellow ones so my son found this one on the net. Can someone tell me the date of manufacture and what the SP stands for?
Also was this ever made in a ultra slim line version with two blades? The one I have now is thin but it seems the one I carried way back then was just a little thinner.
Thanks in advance. Witness.

Re: Case XXX stamping question
witness, without seeing it, I would guess that it is a 1979 model. The "sp" stands for "spey" blade. Pictures would help to confirm this, Tim

Re: Case XXX stamping question
Good Mornin' Witness, Welcome to AAPK!
Sounds like you have what some folks call a "Slim line Trapper". It was made in 1979 according to the dating system used by Case.
Pretty sure the "Sp" references the spay blade on these knives.
The 048 knives are very similar in length and shape to the standard #54 trapper. When compared, the 048 seems pretty thin.

edit: seems timgreene48 has already got you started

Re: Re:
Thanks for the responses. The knife in question is stamped on the pointed blade........
"CASE XX" in all caps and standard block letters. Underneath that is
"USA" also in all caps and standard block letters. Under that is one
"." centered under the S in USA.
The other round tip blade is just stamped with the model number "32048SP". As stated I have carried the two blade slim lines (no metal bolster on heal of knife) for many years. Even though they are slim it seems like there used to be an ultra slim line even thinner. Any thoughts?
Also was there a 32048 made with out the "SP" designation back in the early 1960's?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Case XXX stamping question
Hi; No for the trapper style, the 32048 is the slimmest Case pattern. In the two bladed version, the spay was always the secondary blade on the 32048. It was discontinued in the early 1980's.

Re: Case XXX stamping question
I used to carry 31048s a lot, the single blade version, and yes the older ones were slimmer at the non-bolster end. I think they got bigger somewhere in the late 70s.
I liked those knives but they are so slim and light they would fall out of my pocket without being noticed and get lost.
I like carrying bigger knives these days.

Re: Case XXX stamping question
Thanks for all the info. I am sure that what I have is a late 70's version. The research on the other 32048s, possibly slimmer, sates they were made around 1960-64.

Here's a link to one "how to" method. http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... 98&t=50258 If that doesn't work go to to the AAPK "Forum" page, open the AAPK Tips and Tricks forum. You'll find all sorts of good info there.laven11 wrote:I have a folding hunter 2 blade Circle C 1920 - 1940. It is a xxx How do I post pictures of it ? Thanks

Quote from the Case College section of the Case company website: http://www.wrcase.com/case_college/
Has W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company ever made a knife that carried a XXX stamp?
There is a bit of mystery surrounding the “XXX” stamp. This stamp was introduced by James Parker, former owner of our company from 1989-1990. After Jim sold the company to American Brands, he went out on his own and introduced a series of knives that he referred to as the Case Classics. This is one instance where we have seen this stamp used. As for original Case knives, being made in our factory in Bradford, PA, we have not found evidence to support any program introduction or special run of knives with the “XXX” stamp.

Re: Case XXX stamping question
What Case posted is not quite correct. Jim Parker started the Case Classics program while he owned Case, 1989-1990. For one thing, I rememberthat very well. The Case classics are shown and mentioned in the Jim Giles book, published in 1989. For another thing, otherwise how would he have been authorized to use the Case logos and trademarks?Mumbleypeg wrote:Quote from the Case College section of the Case company website: http://www.wrcase.com/case_college/

Also, one of the patterns produced with the XXX stamp was the 62100 saddlehonn - one of the four Case Classics patterns that WERE produced in the Case factory in Bradford.
