What is Your Latest Old Schrade?

Schrade Cutlery Company was founded in 1904 by George Schrade, and his brothers Jacob and William Schrade. In 1946 Imperial Knife Associated Companies, (IKAC; an association of Ulster Knife Co and Imperial Knife Co) purchased controlling interest in Schrade Cut Co and changed the name to Schrade Walden Cutlery. In 1973 the name was changed to Schrade Cutlery. In 2004 Schrade closed due to bankruptcy.

This forum is dedicated to the knives that are the legacy of this company. This forum is not the place to discuss the replica knives currently being imported using the Schrade name.

I have an 838 which could be the twin to that 836 except for the blade configuration. The 838 has the same Large Saber Clip Point blade, the same small spear point and, instead of the small clip point on your knife (836) the 838 has a small Bevel point blade.

Good looking knife!

I can't seem to find the 838 listed anywhere

Here is a 9" oal, 4 1/2" blade, Geo Schrade Knife Co. "Stagbrand" fixed blade.
I think this might be my oldest Schrade as I believe it was made in Bridgeport Ct. between 1931-1945.

Anybody like Sçhrade Stag? Here are several that were done at the factory. The 152 has had some file work done as well. These are very similar to the New York Knife Company knives that Sçhrade did. The stag is done the same and they also have the highly polished blades.

GREAT OBSERVATION! ::tu::
I do not have the 838 listed on the Schrade Open Stock sheet in the Schrade Research Section because I was unaware if it until yesterday. I was researching a 834 I got yesterday and saw the 838 in the 1954 price list.
As a mater of fact the only references I have found so far to the 838 are in the 1953 & 1954 Schrade price lists.

Tom,
Thanks for posting the pics of your 838! ::tu::

Someday, maybe I can get the update put together for the Schrade lists.
If I have a few months of nothing else to do, I could get them updated, but, that ain't likely to happen any time soon! ::dang::

Here are a couple Old Schrade Waldens I got this week:
Schrade Walden 834 bone stag a.jpg
Schrade Walden 834 bone stag b.jpg
Schrade Walden 834 bone stag c.jpg
Schrade Walden 834 bone stag d.jpg
The catalogs list the 834 as "Bone Stag" before 1957. In the 1957 catalog the handles are listed as "stagged."

This is another one I just got, a Schrade Walden 766. Not perfect but a nice example.
It was a Schrade Cut Co pattern; #R7664-3/4B that was carrier over into the Schrade Walden line.
The 766 last appears in the Schrade Walden catalogs in 1969.

I could maybe get hooked on those open stock Schrades. The few I have, I like a lot.

I guess we were all bidding on that one, LOL! I'm glad it went to someone who will appreciate it, and I hope you didn't pay more for it than you wanted to.

Hey Philll! I didn't realize it was you who won the knife, glad you like it! ::tu::

It was a tough decision to sell it, good to see it went to someone who'll appreciate it.
