Mangled Camillus #66

Albert Einstein is credited with saying; “Two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I am not sure about the universe.”


It must have been one of those “infinite” people who asked himself a question something like this:
“What do I do with my Camillus #66 that I just mangled by prying so hard with the spey blade that I snapped the blade clean off and tweaked the frame so bad that the sheepfoot wants to close in the middle of the stub of the spey blade?”

THE PROBLEM

There are a couple solutions that come to my mind directly:
#1 – Buy a flippin’ pry bar and stop using your knife to pry!
#2 – Send it to someone who can repair it.



This knife at one point in its life, had obviously been in the possession of a genius who came up with a new & innovative solution??!

Said genius was no doubt the reason I found the #66 at the flea market for $1.

THE SOLUTION?

Grind a notch in the broken blade so the tip of the sheepfoot blade is merely dulled when it hits the stub of the spey blade instead of being chipped.

Brilliant!

Now Dale you're looking at this all wrong. Instead of seeing a mangled spey blade, just look at that neat ol custom flat head screwdriver you have now.

Yeah, I get frustrated when I see abuse like that. I try to justify what led to someone doing that to a knife, maybe they were in a tough spot and had no other tool for an emergency repair. Still makes me angry though.

I have seen creative people grind down a broken blade to the stub of the tang so it will sit flush with the liners when closed, thereby still making the sheepfoot blade usable.

Of course, with your talents Dale, instead there will be a total rework of that knife that will be spectacular.

Of that I am sure, buddy.

frustrating but thats what keeps people like us in business Dale. If not for yesteryears morons (or less than fortunate if we're being PC) we might be out of a job.

I recognize that knife, it belonged to Bubba....he sure had a lot of stuff
