age of marlin spike Camillus

The Camillus Cutlery Company was one of the oldest knife manufacturers in the United States with roots dating back to 1876. The company manufactured Camillus branded knives and was a prolific contractor for other knife brands up until its last days in 2007 when the company filed for bankruptcy.

::shrug:: Any idea of the age of this Camillus marlin spike knife? Goin's doesn't mention the "Camillus Stainless U.S.A. marking. I have owned it for 13 years and it was used then. Also has a "whale " of a spring! thanks, terry

This is a typical Camillus tang stamp for stainless steel knives from the 60's to the 80's.
The model #697 Marlin Spike knife is the #5734 pattern and was made for the U.S. Military for the first time in the 1962. Camillus was the primary manufacturer of the Marlin Spike knife and manufactured this pattern for Case, Kabar, Utica and Buck.
