Another mystery knife........

Post by knife7knut »

Got this knife yesterday from a friend of mine who when he was downsizing(moving to a smaller home)found a bunch of knives in his garage and house and gifted them to me. Among them was a Officer's model SAK;another similar one marked Guidesman and this fixed blade.
It was pretty dirty when I got it and at first I thought it might be a Pakistani or Indian knife but on closer inspection I'm not so sure.
The unmarked blade is convex ground;something you don't normally encounter on a cheap knife. The brass bolsters seem to be pretty well made and attached with pins. The wood scales have no pins but are still securely attached to the knife due to the shape of the bolsters although they are not dovetailed like most custom knives.
One down side is that the blade doesn't seem to be overly hard as I ran a file over it and it bit into the blade somewhat easily.
The shape is actually pretty comfortable to hold which leads me to believe that someone took a little time to think out the design.
So..... what are your thoughts on this? Anyone ever see one similar? It reminds me of some of the earlier Rigid fixed blades.

Looks to be an attempt to copy the style of some of the Rigid brand Bowie knives.

If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.
