Newest Case Pick-Ups

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Saw this 10 dot Muskrat at a local antiques place, at $30.00 maybe a little overpriced based on condition, but I didn't have one in the collection. It was mislabeled as a Case XX USA 65-69 but once I ran a little polish across it, the dots showed up.

I'm a little curious though, It looks like the handles are red bone, but neither Voyles nor Sargent's lists a 10 dot red bone. i'm open to any suggestions, corrections or opinions. :D

Which edition of Sargent's are you using?

It might be time to upgrade from my handed-down 1992 3rd edition.

Thank you gentlemen! While this knife isn't anywhere close to mint, it's still a sharp little knife that will fit right in with what I've already got.

This shop had maybe two dozen other knives as well, I grabbed a well loved PAL Easy Opener for under $30 at the same time as the Muskrat. They also had a vintage German Boker, some new Marbles fixed blades, a couple more Case knives I might go back for and a Western that seemed pretty decent. None would ever qualify as mint, but I think a knife with a little history is more interesting.

Picked up a 132 baby butterbean at the fleas yesterday. Redbone from '05.
No box, looks as though carried but not sharpened. $20 . . . .
First Case in a long while for me.

Tom, that's one I would probably have sprung for too. Scarce pattern especially from Tested and XX era. ::tu::
