what is the exact function of this knife
Hello all; I picked up this knife at the Oregon knife show, at first though it was a
cigar cutter, but it won't open up enough to cut a cigar, now wondering if it was for
pruning roses.
The knife is 4 1/2" long stamped Wade & Batcher, Sheffield, England. The handle to
the cutter has the # 716810.
Any help would be great!
Thanks in advance

Phin, might be a bartenders knife made by Wade & Butcher, Sheffield with a B arrow and cross below the Sheffield. can't quite see the trade mark. Does your knife have a corkscrew on the back side? c 1818-1890. "However the marking "Wade & Butcher" is still in use, and was owned by the Durham-Duplex Razor Co. in 1953. This company manufactured "Bowie" type knives, among other kinds of cutlery". Goens page 290 hope that helps a little, Terry
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!

It's called a Wade and Butcher cutter knife. Check the link below. It's to a very cool site for multi tools.

They are secateurs used to prune plants typically by your home gardener.

Yea, that's what I decided on too once I read the OP's statement again and saw that it won't open enough to cut a cigar. That leaves finger tips out of the question as wellwlf wrote:I wonder if that tipped blade is used to open bark or what??
People that take gardening seriously would be able to cut and graft branches with this tool.

Very cool, beautiful knife. The pruner blade is the tip off as to its intended use.

If anyone just has to have one there is a variation on ebay (at least as of today 4/20) with a But It Now / Make Offer listing.
