Question concerning the patent for the Barnett tool knife

When you look at the original patent for the Barnett tool knife J.C. Lewis is the first name you see. However when you read the description of the knife the name James Gatlin Lewis is used. At the end of the description the name J.C. Lewis is used. I always assumed that someone made a mistake on one of the names. I have seen numerous knives stamped J.G. Lewis pat.
Can anyone educate me on this matter? You can do a google patent search on J.C. Lewis to see the patent.

Wonder if the man's name is "Catlin" rather than Gatlin? Easy to mistake a C for a G especially if someone is transcribing hand printing. A written G is quite different from a C but not so if it was printed. Just an old sign painter's opinion.

I see what you are saying about the C and G but why would Barnett tool co. make so many knives stamped J.G. Lewis pat as opposed to J.C Lewis patent?
