Remington Inked Pattern Numbers

In response to an inquiry from a fellow AAPK memeber, I'm posting a picture of a Remington inked on pattern number. In the latter part of the 1930's , Remington was trying to cut back on the cost of producing and advertising cutlery. One thing they did was use an inked on pattern number. Its kind of rare to find a knife with this ink still intact, as it wore away quickly with much use. Thats one thing to keep in mind when looking at old Remingtons, its quite possible to find knives in near mint condition with no pattern number. I've personally saw such knives being passed up as being forgerys or counterfeits, when in fact they are authentic. This knife is a circle Remington R155 2 blade jack with pyremite handles and a inked on pattern number on the tang.

I've been a part of that discussion and oddly, I have a knife exactly like the R155 shown here (without the etch, unfortunately). I also have an R4483 with an inked-on pattern number that I am quite certain is genuine. So far my attempts to take pictures haven't been successful,

My belief that both of these knives are indeed genuine has been met with some skepticism, but that belief hasn't changed.

I made the same observation, namely that a pattern number that was inked-on might quickly fade and leave a genuine Remington without a pattern number.

Incidentally, I have also seen a Keen Kutter with an inked-on pattern number.

Hello msteele6, It now seems that BRL's forum thinks that Remington did ink on tang stamps. I was sure they did, but with Remington Collectors post we can know that what we believed is correct.
