Prayer request for a friend

There are times in each of our lives that rain falls, hard times come and it helps to reach out to our friends and to our God for a little support. This is the place to express those needs, concerns and situations so others in the AAPK family can keep you in their prayers.

Prayer request for a friend

Post by orvet »

I received a call from my good friend Larry last night.
He is in the VA Hospital in Portland with a collapsed lung. This is the second time this has happened to him in the last three years. He was groggy on the phone from the meds they had given him and I had difficulty understanding his explanation for the cause, but apparently there is a genetic condition that can cause the lung to become detached and collapse. The doctors think that may be he cause. He is scheduled for surgery.

I met Larry about 2002 when we worked as Veterans Representatives for the State of Oregon in Albany.
Larry was a Navy Corpsman attached to a Marine Grunt unit in Vietnam. He is a really neat guy and a former pastor.

Prayers for his healing would be appreciated.
Thanks guys! ::tu::

I got a call from Larry today, he said he is feeling better today and the VA is sending him home as the doctor who does the surgery he needs is on vacation for another 10 days.
They told him he may heal up on his own and not require surgery.
Hopefully that will happen, please continue to keep him in your prayers.

I called Larry today. He said he was headed home Thursday and was walking toward the door and his voice got squeaky and his face started swelling. He went back to the nurse's station and they put him right back in the bed and he just got out of the hospital yesterday. It seems there was a leak in his lungs and air was getting under his skin. Pretty strange and painful but not life threatening they told him.

They got him patched up and now he is waiting at home (with a tube sticking out of his side) for his surgery on April 3rd to remove a part of his lung about the size of a softball that had collapsed and it has something wrong with it and needs to be removed so he can heal properly. I didn't catch all the medical terms so that is as good as I can do with the explanation.

Please keep him in your prayers.
Thank you! ::tu::

Had something similar happen 3 years ago. May or may not be exactly the same...

What I had they called blebs. Kind of a weak spot on the lung that swells like a blister. Usually happens to tall, thin people. If/when it pops the lung collapses. They cut an egg-sized chunk off my left lung.

The part that really stinks is they could see more places on the right lung, but because of insurance could not fix it then. I have to wait for it to blowout ...... ::disgust::

Anyway, hope your friend fares well!

Blebs, that was the word he used! Thanks Chris! ::tu::
Your description is very similar to what he experienced.
I am glad you recovered and are fine now.

Larry had is surgery and even went home a day early because the doctors said he was doing so well.
I have been at the OKCA show the last two days and have not had time to call him, but I calked to him about Tuesday and he said he was going home Wednesday morning instead of Thursday. We are supposed to get together in a week or so when he is well on the mend for a visit.

Thanks for all your prayers.
I am still praying for a complete & speedy recovery for Larry.
