I saw it at the Dalton show over the weekend and just couldn't leave it behind.

Now I am trying to get an idea on the age range for it

I don't have as many reference books as I should have,,,,yet

Goin's list both the tang stamps your knife bears as having been used c1912-1950. That's a wide spread. Hopefully someone can narrow that down some, perhaps based on the handle material.

EDIT:

Upon doing a bit more digging I read in Blade's Guide that the rough black material was used primarily in the 1930s-1940s. Maybe that narrows it down a bit more.

Nice knife Brian. Can't help you regarding when it was made but I sure like those pinched square bolsters. Very unusual.

I just couldn't leave it behind when the dealer gave me his best price. I've never seen one with all the things going for it that this one has. I cleaned the top pin after taking the picture and it cleaned right up and matches the bolster now/again

Sometimes LF&C stamped the back of then main blade with a model number. If so, I may be able to look it up in some of the advertising and manufacturers catalogs that I have acquired over the years. I have close to 100 different LF&C models but I don't have this particular one. I grew up in New Britain Connecticut and had numerous relatives that worked at LF&C over the early years. If you are ever in that neck of the woods they have a wonderful industrial museum that you could easily get lost in for a whole day - for free!

I just recently got a cigar-shaped, yellow-ish (celluloid?) handled, 3 blade (spear, spey, awl) L.F.&C. with a broken main blade back spring. I'd like to save it, it'd make a great user. Ball park estimate to make it right? Thanks in advance.

Well, I found this thread while looking for a little info about a knife I just bought.
She ain't real purdy but I do plan to clean her up a bit and get her more presentable.
LF&C USA..... Any ideas about a date for this one?

Hi Mike - In my 1919 catalog on page 34 I see model #0263 which is 3 3/4" long with perfected stag handles, a large spear and pen blade with fine glazed finish. It goes on to say that it has brass liners, nickel silver bolsters and and sold for $20.00/dozen. The interstate shield is a bit more elongated than yours but these catalogs were not meant to be 100% depictions of the knives manufactured. Hope that helps.
