Schrade Walden tang stamp error

Post by HickoryNut »

I have a Schrade Walden with a tang stamp error. The tang reads "Schrade Walden N.Y. U.S.A.
Then stamped upside down on the Schrade Walden stamp is another stamp. This reads "Moore" on the first line, and another word I cant make out under that. My dad bought this knife new years ago and it always puzzled us. I was hoping someone on here would know something about it. I have added a photo.

I know mis-stamped coins carry a high dollar value, I wonder if this is the same.

Refererence I found for Moore,
is Moore Handley Harware Co. (Birmingham, AL) C. 1882-1989
I do not know how that would tie into Schrade at all,
As for mis stamped value... guess it depends if you find a buyer and how much they are willing to pay, as goes for any knife.
I am still doing some reading though, I know I have a few more references to dig around in!

HickoryNut,

The SCHRADE-WALDEN stamp was used between 1948-1973. However, the U.S.A. was not added until around 1953.

Bernard Levine's Guide does list some "Moore/s"...including the one mentioned by SFC ADP. But, the best bet seems to be a listing of:
MOORE.....retail?.....circa 1950.....Pomona, CA.
It mentions that some knives were made by Imperial...which along with Ulster and Schrade...operated together in some form, from about 1947 until 2004.

So, it seems possible you may have a knife made between 1953-1973, mistakenly stamped over. But this is, of course, just conjecture.
