I have always had two or three around all my life. But somehow I have not spent much time thinking about them. When I broke one I just got another cheap one somewhere.
After reading through this topic I knew I needed to expand my experience, so I bought this one off Ebay. I do not know how old this one is, but since it suggests sperm oil I assume it predates the whaling ban in 1972.
Man that's a nice translucent with the box and label. A very nice score. I have a 5x2 that I absolutly love.
Here's the rest of my sharpening supplies,
A Lansky set
A Gizmo (no longer made) it was a knock off of a higher priced quality unit.
A Mundial oil bath tri stone set
A Case Moon Stone minus the box
A Norton India stone
A Case hard Arkansas
And a selection of Arkansas stones from Washita to black

I have kind of wanted one of these Boker Whittlers for a few months. Recently came across this one at with the stone at a good price. The stone feels like a nice medium or slightly coarse grain. I do like that wavy pattern.
Found another old Case counter hone. This one is newer than my other one, probably 1970s era. Has the rectangular oil can which as far as I know is the last ones Case issued.

If your religion requires that you hate someone, you need a new religion.
When the people fear their government, that is tyranny. When government fears the people, that is freedom.

Thanks guys. Phil, the oil can on the newer one is about half full and the stone hasn't seen a lot of use. Haven't looked that close yet but suspect its can is not refillable. The can on the older one is empty but has a screw-on lid so it can be refilled easily.

I like those Case counter hones! They just have a cool factor, especially the older one.
Gino - nice bench stone. I usually use a two grit stone on my kitchen knives.
