OLEAN NY Knife

Hey Guys & Girls, Picked up a Single Blade Knife,sort of a Farmers Knife(pic coming)
The Name (4 letters) I can't make out but I can make out Olean,NY
Any ideas? ::shrug::

yeah guys that's what I keep coming up with....5 letters!
The Stamping looks like it was struck a few times and the Letters are sloppy.
Not too many choices that I am aware of in Olean,NY
Try to get some Pics tomorrow.

Ok ..here's what I have from my "research"..
To Me it looks like F.C. co...Fulton Cutlery.,But was Fulton was in Rochester.
Were they ever located in Olean?

I remember seeing knives stamped U.D. CO. that I suspected were early KA-BAR knives. Most were small celluloid handle pen knives.

hey Wayne...that's pretty ,not familar with that.....what did the UD stand for?

I can't see the stamp very clearly but do you think the first letter could be a U? Maybe just the right side of the U is pressed in.

I'm not sure what the U.D.Co. stands for but thought the U could be Union as the few examples I have seen looked like KA-BAR knives to me. Goin's book does list U.D.Co. with no other information.

yeah I tried to get the best shot I could.
I wish it was a U but no it really doesn't much like one.
There couldn't have been but a few (if even that) Cutlery Co's in Olean,NY right? ::shrug::
What I need is a Microscope!

Not a very good stamp but makes sense that it would be U. C. Co. Olean N.Y.

I think you might be mistaking the period after the first letter for being part of the letter itself. Looks like a U to me in your pictures.

Thanks Guys,..I'd say that U C certainly makes the most sense,the second letter is a C for sure.
However if the first letter is a U,it's the worse U I've seen!.. ::hmm::
The Base is real narrow for a U,but I don't believe there is a better possibility.

I think Wayne is correct that the first letter is a U with the left side of the letter very lightly struck (if at all). I can see that more readily than I can make out the C which follows.

Helpful hint: Cross your eyes just a fraction and it all comes into focus. :mrgreen:
