Need help: Glued in stone.

Need help. I would like to remove an old German water-stone from its' fitted case to clean and re-face. One of the previous owners has loaded it up with oil which I think might boil off (?), but it is glued into the case, which is rather attractive and I would like to save.The stone is very old and the glue is possibly shellac.Can anyone help.
