Shield questions

Post by Paladin 51 »

Where do most of you get shields from? I have used USA knife maker and handmade a few but USA always out of what I want. I may have line on getting some shields cut and wondered if others are looking for shields as well. What shields are folks interested in and what would be a reasonable per cost price?

I think for me the most sought over shields I've looked for in the past have been boker shields. I've ordered a few from the good people at boker but they don't look right on a USA knife.

I think I will have some acorn shields made as well as couple of older style shields. Guessing everyone already has a source or don't need any.

The only source I have used is USA Knifemaker, and as you said, they are hit and miss. They seem to have more shields than templates at times. I was thinking of bringing some shields to a local metal guy to see if they can make templates for me.

I really enjoy all they offer, and I find the price acceptable for what you get.

In addition to their offerings, I would like to see a couple thin "bar" shields offered. I guess they would be easy enough to make, but sometimes time is important, so grinding out a shield is time that could be better spent doing something else.

Well, there are a small handful of mechanics that I know of on AAPK, maybe a few Basement tinkerers that might be interested as well.

Count me as interested, depending on types and cost, of course.

Thanks,

I've been looking for replacement scroll type shields for those Boker congress knives for years. If you can come up with something that works in them count me in.
