This is an original 1936 catalog ad for these knives.Gunsil wrote:The rare 266 "Primitive" and a 237 "Old Boy", and the rarer 281 "Minute Man, designed by Fred W Smith, noted New England hunter and sportsman.

Re: Vintage Union Cutlery Co. KA-BAR Knives
Hi Dimitri, are you sure it's a 1936 catalog?? Is it a little folding brochure called "KA-BAR Outdoor Knives"? If so what is the number on the brochure?? I know the Minuteman was introduced in 1926, but I had thought it was out of production by 1936. The latest brochure I know it's listed in is #34.Miller Bro`s wrote:This is an original 1936 catalog ad for these knives.Gunsil wrote:The rare 266 "Primitive" and a 237 "Old Boy", and the rarer 281 "Minute Man, designed by Fred W Smith, noted New England hunter and sportsman.

Gene, I either got this picture from the internet or someone sent it to me, as it was saved in my e-files. I noted on the file it was circa 1936. That is the only information I have on it, sorry.

Here's a couple, a Union Cutlery Lineman bought in a pawnshop in Smethport PA while hunting last year not that far from Olean and a more recent Kabar with a Cleveland, Oh stamp a 2751 boot. The ash tray isn't for sale

This is a great thread. Dimitri and Gene, you have inspired me to dig out some old Union Cut stamps. Straight knives posting today, I will try and get some pocketknives up tomorrow. The first photo are all Union (or stamped KA-BAR with Union stamped on reverse), the second photo are just old KA-BAR but kind of neat, and the Knife-Axe is Union.

Here are some folders to check out. First two photos are marked Union on one or all blades. The others are all old KA_BAR stamps.

Just got this knife: Tang says Union Cut. Co. Olean NY - it was listed as 1920-1952. Can anyone get a better date?? Knife in great condition, very sharp, loud snap. A great old knife.

According to Goins that Mark Union Cut Co was used 1911-1951, hope that helps and that is a nice collector piece. If you click on the link below it will take you to the Tang Mark topic http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... =4&t=39799 you should be able to find Kabar in there and find out more about the history.
Good luck,
Richard

Have not seen this particular thread ......
The only KA BAR I own, Union Cut Co Olean NY. In the EDC rotation.
Some significant blade loss, but it will get re-dic-u-lous-ly sharp !!!!
