Downtown in Mexico city

I had to go downtown last Friday and spent a while just walking around, I know the place well, it's big and crowded and with so many things to see... among other things I saw knives:

Casa Boker had some goodies: trappers and stockmen in wood, bone and stag, a whole bunch of "tacticals" including autos, a couple of damascus folders, one in MOP, a few small gentleman lockbacks and several hunting type fixed blades.

Several small Schrade Old Timers (the real thing) were in the window of an antique shop, along with a Colonial electrician, priced at about $30 US to $50 US each. Since I saw these I've got a funny feeling, like an itching in my mind, and may have to go back and buy them all to feel better...

There's a luggage and gift shop that has been in the same corner for as long as I can remember, run by its Jewish owners. They had three Imperial Mexico knives with partially opened blades in a display on the counter, I told the guy with the Kipot that those must have been in there for over 20 years, he said he guessed a lot more than that, I asked to see them, in two of them the springs were weak enough to make them useless but one was OK and I bought it for a bit under $10 US, it has simple steel sheet stamped sides, probably nickel plated, and a single spear blade with bottle opener. I'm a user not a collector so I will take good care of it but will be using it, I have touched up the edge, put in drop of oil and have it in my shirt pocket right now. You can see it in the picture.

Lrv here is my one and only Mexican Imperial. This was reported to come for the wall at schrade, but I
have to wonder about that. Don Luis mismo bonito

Randy,
If the pouch came from SMKW it may in fact be from their auction purchases.
Phil sent me a clone to the pouch and we found out that the knife that was to be put into it was never produced. The original model was stolen from a knife show but eventually ended up back with the designer.

Great to see another out there.

The Jernigan zippered knife cases are still available from wholesalers, as various other bits of Schrade USA flotsam are. They must have had plans to build and sell a lot of those knives. Mr. Jernigan was certainly a gentleman about answering my questions on that ill-fated collaboration.

Larry, the knife came from ebay but the ebay seller got it from smkw and the pouch from blue ridge , thanks for the history of the Jernigan knife
