Antique/Vintage "Eversharp" Folding Knife Identification
Internet searches only provide antique pens and modern knives for cooking. Can anyone assist me with information concerning this knife? The sheath is brass except for the claps that snaps on to the base of the knife handle. The handles appear to be stag and the quillion is also brass. Aside from the marking on the quillion, which states, Eversharp", there are no other markings on the knife. Anyone seen these around? Many Google searches have lead me nowhere.
Any help would be appreciated!

Re: Antique/Vintage "Eversharp" Folding Knife Identification
Welcome to the forums! This one is a bit of an enigma. This particular pattern was made in Germany and England early in the 20th century and recently by Hubertus. They also made cheap versions in India and Pakistan usually with fake English markings. These could usually be identified by their use of brass in the guards(quillions)and bolsters.
That being said this example does NOT look to be one of those although I wouldn't discount it completely. What is puzzling is the metal ring in the second picture at the top(front)of the knife. It looks almost like a folding muzzle ring as used on bayonets but I don't see any method of attaching it to a rifle. Is it in fact a lock release for the blade? I'd like to see a couple of views of that item.
The only reference I can recall to the name Eversharp is a brand of safety razor and double edged blades made in the 1950's.

Welcome to AAPK!!
Ray, that "Ring" is pinned to one side of the guard and swings through it to lie along the backspring, if there is one, when the knife is opened.
I suspect it has a cam or lever/fulcrum mechanism to it and does lock and unlock the blade.
I doubt it acts as a mount for a rifle.
Interesting old knife.
I wonder how many of them still retain that protective blade sheath?

Thank you for the response Ray and Charlie, it is much appreciated! Charlie, you are correct - the ring on the side of the knife is a blade release. Here are a couple more pics of that part of the knife.

Re: Antique/Vintage "Eversharp" Folding Knife Identification
From what I could see of the ring it looked to be round which is why I thought it might be a barrel ring. Now the I see the other pictures I am still a bit mystified.I cannot see what the lever rests against to unlock the blade. It looks like it would rest directly on the back spring that it is supposed to lever upward.
Looking at the lever the color of the steel appears to be very old and that is something that is not easy to fake. I have several old I*XL knives that exhibit this particular blade coloration.
Also the fit and finish look far superior to anything that ever came out of India or Pakistan. The lettering looks slightly italicized which is a bit uncommon for older knives;most of them feature a vertical font. The use of brass is a bit uncommon for the older English and German folding hunters;I don't recall ever seeing one featuring it.
I hope others will see this thread and offer up some suggestions.
EDIT: I wanted to post a pic of an old switchblade that IO have which has a similar lever release for the blade. However on this one the lever has a slot through the middle that allows the back spring to rise up through it to effect the release. As you can see the quality of this knife is marginal. It is old though and likely made in India or somewhere nearby.

So, in the pics you'll see that the lever opens a little gap, which allows the spring to move and the blade to lock open or closed. Thanks again for the replies and assistance with this knife.

From what I can find online JA Henckels owns the "eversharp" name or trademark.
It does look German to me.

That knife looks way to well built to be India/Pakistan made. You will see a good amount of European knives from the 1920's and 30's with brass replacing the nickel silver. Could be the era this one is from. The nickel was going to heavier grade weapons, a lot of war back then.
