Nice bunch of knives your Papaw has rookie.

Ray ,I tried to buy an old Peters Bros whittler with inlaid horn(that the bugs had got to) once. Nice knife, but the seller thought they had something that belonged in a museum by their pricing.

Roger that blade on that trapper is an eyecatcher.Looks like a Schrade bark loosener blade stretched way out.

That's a beauty Tom,and I've not heard of that stamp from Canton,but there's a lot I don't know.

Thanks wlf, I've looked and admired his collection since I was little and "not allowed to touch". Some pieces come and go, some have been there forever.

Glad you finally found that one Roger. Better send it to me before it gets lost. That is a fine looking knife :: ::tu:: I really like the handles as well as the shield on that one. The double pull is a nice touch as well.
Thanks for posting it!

Here is a George Savage & Sons XX Cutlery Co. whittler waiting to be cleaned. Dates to 1841-42 according to Goins'. A NY importer.

Rector & Wilhelmy Co.master blade stamp and Ulster on secondary. Etched "Clean Clipper".Goins says 1876-1902 out of Omaha Nebraska. He also said knives were stamp Miller Brothers on small blade but it looks like Ulster made knives for them also.

Some rare treasures on this thread! Here's an old rare stamp example I picked up a while back. Rather & Co. Gunstock whittler with celluloid scales. Haven't found much about it. Goins lists the maker, but nothing about them. Posted it elsewhere but it fits here also. Thanks for looking.

Nice knife, peanut. Too bad the blade etch has faded some, but the killer swedge more than makes up for it in my mind. ::tu::

Cool whittler, Ken. The celluloid scales are some of the prettiest I've ever seen. ::drool::
