Selling a Collection
I am in the process of thinning out some of my vast collection. When I've done this in the past, I just contacted individual dealers that I have done business with and they submitted an offer. That seemed to work pretty well although obviously I had to sell at a fraction of the value so that the dealers could make a profit on the resale. I was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions for how to get the word out more specifically to collectors like me who aren't necessarily interested in buying them as cheaply as possible so they can make a profit by reselling. I am NOT interested in selling on eBay (for a number of reasons). It's not so much about the money as it is about getting collectible knives directly into the hands of genuine collectors without having to go through a middleman.

Re: Selling a Collection
Gee, you know that's pretty interesting. (setting up a store)
I've close to a hundred knives and am kinda interested in selling them.
Don't like EBay and have no relatives that would appreciate having them.
I just purchased a nice camera so I can finally take pictures that ought
to be better than my old Sony Mavica. I will seriously look into this
proposition of opening a store. First I have to take some pictures.

Ricky.....As I meant to tell QTCut5, I'd be very interested if you have any Whittlers in the bunch. He and I made an interesting trade, but I understand your desire to sell. That doesn't change my interest in any available Whittlers. And good luck with the store. You'll be in good company.

I am not sure exactly how I want to proceed, but I just took some pictures w/#s and and thought I'd post them, There are some whittlers.(C-6, C-7, C-8)
All Red Bone NC/NS All Reb Bone NC/NS All NC/NS Lemon n Lime LE NC/NS Smooth Red Bone LE NC/NS Smooth Black Bone LE NC/NS All NC/NS Misc. I'd entertain an offer for all of them.
I'll respond to all requests for more info/ I think the pics are Ok to enlarge to see more detail. That's the reason for adding ID numbers.
Hope I'm not violating any forum rules.

Re: Selling a Collection
Since I asked to see them, I don't think you're breaking any rules.
The ID numbers do help too. Would you mind sending me a PM about C-7? That's one I don't have.

Re: Selling a Collection
I just now see someone selling a collection of LE Lemon n Lime knives on E-Bay. It's the full series minus the Peanut.
It is going to be interesting to see what they fetch, since they are selling them individually.

Re: Selling a Collection
As an administrator on AAPK perhaps I can be of assistance to you and selling your knives.
The last word I had from Bryan, the forum owner, was that there will be fewer stores opened in the near future.
There are a variety of reasons for this, one reason is for the time involved for Bryan to set up the store. He has other demands on his time at the moment that are more important and more pressing and there have been a few problems with existing stores.
I would certainly encourage you to send Bryan a PM and inquire about opening a store, but it may be some time before that will happen.
In the meantime you can sell your knives in the Advertisements Forum: http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/kni ... m.php?f=31
If you wish, I can move this entire topic to the Advertisements Forum where it would probably receive greater exposure than it does here in the Case Collectors Forum.
Case is a well-known and highly collected brand and I'm sure the knives would have appealed to some people who don't frequent the Case Collectors Forum.
Technically all knife sales should be conducted in the Advertisements Forum or the Knife Trading Forum.
I realize the intent of your post was to ask how to sell your collection, not a post to sell knives per se.
If you would like me to move this topic to the Advertisements Forum I will be happy to do so, just send me a PM. That will save you the trouble of having to post all your pictures again in a new topic in the Advertisements Forum.
I hope this is helpful,
Dale
