Katz Cheetah question...

Hi folks,

can anyone tell me if it is possible to remove the ugly thumbstud made of plastic on the actual Katz Cheetah folders???

Yes, at least on the one I had, the black plastic thumb stud was held on by a small screw threaded into the spine of the blade.

Yes, it´s the same here...but how about the hole that will be left when the stud and the screw are gone?

Well, a good looking thumb stud, ambidextorous, they may make some that are not threaded or threaded. Some are black others silver, some have jewels in the center. here is just one of many sites. These, at some are designed by Darrel Ralph. You may have to purchase a carbide bit if you need a larger hole. A 3/16 hole is large equal to .1875 inches. Probably won't have to make the hole larger, that's pretty big, come to think of it.

There are many knifemaking sites that sell thumbstuds.

Ambidextorous may require some handle modification.

I was more thinking of how to let it vanish completely.

I guess the best possibility might be to unscrew the screw that holds the thumb stud in place, remove the plastic thing, screw the screw back in its place and grind it completely off. So there should be an almost invisible surface of the ex-screw be left, huh?

911, i was just about to suggest that. when i worked on guns i had to fill the hole in bbls from iron sights and used the filler plugs, ground them off and re blue. if you take your time it will appear seemless. much the same way pins are dressed on the bolsters.
