knife shops in NYC + recommendations

hello. i need help in finding a good knife shop in NYC or a recommendation...

i'm here because i want to get my boyfriend his second pocket knife. however, i have no idea what to get. i don't even know what brand he has. all i know is that he is very particular. he likes simple, practical. nothing fancy, just very slick, top of the line. he carries his all the time on his back pocket.

because he is so particular i thought i just bring him to a knife shop and have him pick...

if you could name me a few shops and recommend me some knives i'd be very grateful...

This may not be what you want to hear, but from what a friend of mine told me, there are no good knife/cutlery stores there.

Paragon Sports is the store most often mentioned. The story is that they have some production knives, and a better selection of custom knives, but that they are priced well above the MSRP. You can always check there if that is not an issue for you.

Hi paola,

There are about ten thousand (underestimated) choices out there for the knife you described. If you could sneak us a picture of his current one, we could better direct you. A price range would be helpful also!

Gary knows his stuff, and is correct, IMO as well.

As far as online, you can go to the top of the page right here (Buy/Sell)...click on AAPK member sites...then you will see pictures of the newest knives listed, and a big list of brand names. Or, you can then click on View Existing Stores...and visit a whole bunch of online stores, with tons of different knives, and usually great descriptions. Maybe you'll see something you like from one of the members right here.

i jst overheard he likes boker knives and benchmade.
i would like to get him a different brand. something better, an upgrade but geez! he's cost so much! i didn't know!

Most folks will tell you there isn't much to "upgrade" about a Sebenza. You may be spinning your wheels if that is your intent. JMO.

Possibly a different type of knife, like a traditional pattern in a stag or ivory handle material? Or, maybe a fixed blade, rather than a folding knife?

There absolutely nothing wrong with having multiple knives from the same famous knife maker (can you have to many Louis Vittons?) If that is the way you decide to go find something with different handle material, blade shape, etc. More points with the Reeves!

It’s hard to go from driving a Lexus to a Toyota.

But the HANDLE: Exotic Fossil Mammoth Ivory is a classic pice of old history in it self.

I am likeing it so much too now...
