Need Help with This Case Tested XX

Roger was trying to help me identify this knife when he passed away.

Please take a look at it and tell me your thoughts good, bad, or indifferent. I can't find it listed anywhere and don't know if they made prototypes back then.

It is a Candy Stripe Tested XX - some kind of a Whittler. Looks similar to a Classic Whittler. Bolsters are different. It is 3 5/8" closed.

Any help would be appreciated.

Looks to be a 3046

3046 was 3 3/8" this 3 1/2"

Also the handles are very muted in color compared to a Classic era Candy Stripe.

Another thing is the handles are not rounded like a Classic. They have a flat diamond shaped area on them and then bevel down (hope I am explaining this right). Hard to take a picture of but I could try again.

I found a pattern 6346 1/2 in the older Bradford period that best fits the frame so far. This is a picture of the Bradford knife. They were also made later during the Tested era with various handle materials, I just haven't found any pictures yet!

Well, I have gone through 5 editions of Sargents, and several others and I can't find a picture of a Tested 6346 1/2 or 6346 anywhere!
I think that is what you have? It's the clip point and handle material that are throwing me.

Parkers volume 8 mentions them in the tested period, but then again no pictures.

Definitely not a proto. Bernard Levine says they did not make protos back then so the quest goes on.

Perry thinks it is a Case Classic chassis with the blades changed out to blades that were stamped with the tested era stamp but the pinched bolsters and handle does not go with any Classic I know of nor does the chassis seem to match up with any of them. One of the two blades comes close but this is a 3 back spring.

The Case stamping looks different on the main blade (flat topped C). Is that the CASE...or I'm I seeing things?
A blade replacement possibly? A Queen frame?

Thought you had something there but I looked and the stampings are all exactly the same just bigger on the main blade. The C's are all curved up.

hey sandie, the bolsters could be modified. if the knife is not genuine, anything is possible. the flat handles look like modern hafting to me.
