Jean Case knife and axe combo in original box

The W.R. Case & Sons Cutlery Company has a very rich history that began in 1889 when William Russell (“W.R.”), Jean, John, and Andrew Case began fashioning their knives and selling them along a wagon trail in upstate New York. The company has produced countless treasures and it continues to do so as one of the most collected brands in the world.

Hello everyone. New to the forum and knives. All help is very much appreciated. My dear uncle gave me this set recently and I have had a little trouble finding info on how old this is and how valuable it may be (not intending to sell) Thanks in advance. Warning- pic heavy.

Sorry o hear about your uncle. My deepest sympathies....

That's a real gem.
There's a set (not mint like yours) that sold on ebay for $165.00 under SOLD LISTINGS

Lol. I did not mean to imply he had passed. Thank you for the reply. Are these pretty rare?

Welcome to AAPK! You are very fortunate to have this item in the condition it's in, and the original box with it to boot. The knife and axe themselves are not all that rare - if you watch eBay these come up for auction occasionally. However having the set with sheath and original box, in what appears near-mint condition, is very rare. The bad news is that this makes it difficult to affix a value as there aren't many comparable examples to use for getting a value. Best advice I can give on that is to do an advanced search on eBay for completed sales of Jean Case knife axe sets. You'll need to look at the details to determine condition of the items as sold, and judge from that point what added value you may have due to the unusually good condition of yours and the accompanying original box.

Of course, the sentimental value to you is priceless anyway. ::tu::

Fine looking set and to get the leather in such good condition and the box is triple good.

Seems there is a strong upward trend in collecting the Kinfolks, Jean Case, and Western brand knives that have the solid color handles like yours.

I sold a Kinfolks set about 2 years ago for $200 that had yellow handles and yellow butt caps rather than the usual black caps. First and only one I ever remember seeing with a colored butt caps.

Recently sold these three single knives on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KINFOLKS-MY65-V ... 1242067434

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KINFOLKS-MY65-V ... 1242080568

http://www.ebay.com/itm/KINFOLKS-Y330-V ... 1242086222

I would guesstimate that your set with the box would be worth $200 plus ball park. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for yalls expertise. I'm gonna put this one in a case because I don't know when I'll see another. Would you believe my uncle got paid 400 bucks to haul off a bunch of "junk" that included this and some other great tools!
