Katz knives

Don't know why I just became aware of this brand. A friend brought me one to look at, a very nice, heavy duty folder in a quality leather sheath.

What can any of you tell me about these things?

Katz Knives: The Katz Knife line, since 1991, features Keith Derkatz designs.
Katz Knives was founded in 1991 by Keith Derkatz. All Katz knives are designed by Mr. Derkatz, and are made in Japan by high quality manufacturers. The Katz Knife line includes hunting knives, lock back folding knives, money clip knives and more. The blades of all Katz Knives are made of one of two types of proprietary steel: XT70 stainless steel, that tests out at 54-55 on the Rockwell "C" scale, or XT80 stainless steel, that tests out at 58-59 on the Rockwell "C" scale. With the resilience of these excellent stainless steels, the blades hold and retain an edge to the high standard for which Katz is known.
The Katz Knives hunting line includes the Lion King, Wild Kat, and Black Kat Series fixed blade hunting knives. The Katz Knives hunting knives have full tang construction for strength, and contoured handles that are flared at the butt for exceptional balance and control. The blades are a full 5mm thick, making these knives among the strongest in the industry today.

The Katz Cheetah Series Knives are lock back folders with ambidextrous one hand opening thumb stud. Available in choice of White Micarta, Cherrywood, or Kraton handles.

The Katz Bobcat Series Money Clip Knives are available with Jadewood, Cherrywood, or White Micarta handles. A Katz Money Clip Knife converts to a Belt Buckle Knife by sliding it into the Belt Buckle Knife Holder (sold separately).

The Kagemusha Series includes a fixed blade knife and a folding knife with the exclusive Ninja-Point blade.

Nice looking knife.
From the poor pics on the auction, it reminded me of the Al Mar knives made before Al died (1992). Those early knives were made by Huhey (not sure of the spelling) in Saki Japan. He is an expensive maker, but Al told me Huhey was the best knife maker in Japan.

I thank the lot of you very much. Strange how I never came across one of these before. Proof that I do not know it all or even close to it. And I did not think they were still in production.

I like the white handled prototype, although I am always leery of so called 'prototypes' that is such an overused term. I swear some companies only produce such one of a kind knives. Thanks for the tip on where to get one a little more reasonably priced.

I will have to see how my junk.... er.... very valuable cutlery items... finish up on ebay tonight.

I had one of the katz 900 series folders when they first came out, built like a dang TANK and the blade was excellent. It was just so darn heavy I quite carrying it.

Quality though was very high.
