I know Union patent dates the pattern as early as the 20's. But when did the dog heads first come about?

Re: Dog Head Swing Guards
The Union Cut Co. catalog reprint I have dated c. 1925 does show the large 6191 LG pattern ( like the Case 6151 frame large 5 1/4" closed) with the swing guard and Dog's Head shield.
Hope that helps.

Sure does Wayne! Thanks a bunch. I was clueless about when that shield first appeared. Was trying to correctly date one a co- worker had asked my advice about. Those Kabar stamps leave me guessing sometimes.

KA-BAR stamps have always confused me. I think it's easier to tell the age by the knife than it is the stamp. I know there are some KA-BAR experts around here. Maybe well get a more definite answer.
