W R CASE Son pattern# 8277

I'm looking for information on when this pattern started, I've looked in the case engine and come up with nothing.

Very interesting knife. On the very old patterns, little to no actual documentation exists, so when you find one like that with the pattern number stamped on it, that is often the only documentation.

That pattern is shown in a Case Brothers catalog from 1904, same pattern number 8277.

So either WR Case & Sons copied some of the Case Bros patterns, or they acquired the tooling and patterns when they bought the failed Case Brothers company (IIRC that was 1914).

Either way its a very early pattern that was not carried over into the Case Tested era.

It looks like the stamp says WR CASE & SON, can't see for sure. That would date it before 1905 most likely. I have a few knives from that era that have pattern numbers that match the current pattern numbers.
As Steve said, very little documentation exists.

Thank you for the help, when I bought the knife I had no clue who the manufacturer was? It was a nice surprise when I cleaned the tang a little. Mop is in real nice shape.
