I remember reading that Buck changed steel in mid 1992 is there any sure way to know what steel they used in 1992 in what month, 440HC or 425M. George God bless

Since no metal expert has answered you, here is my story.
In the 300 series pocket folders, Buck took over itself making the 301,303,309 and 305 models in 1986. At which time they used 425m blades. OTHER 300 models still under contract to Camillus, such as the 313,321, etc. where made with whatever Camillus was producing for itself. Then after 1990 Buck changed the four models and future ones to 420hc but not all on the same exact date. The Tony BOS heat treatment was also part of the blade prep then also. By the mid-90s all of the four mentioned above were bladed with Bos treated 420hc. As were the next two Buck only made models the 312 and 314 Trappers.
110/112s and straight knives had there own timeline but 420hc became the standard in the 90's.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I read it was 440C until 1981, 1982 to 1991 it was 425M, and 1992 to current it is 420HC. I am not sure how great my information was, but it does give you an idea. This information is in regards to the Buck 110 and 112.
