What is this handle material?

I thought this old H&B had horn handles, then I thought they were some kind of wood, now maybe even some man made material. They do have a tight grain look. I don't KNOW! Pictures should enlarge for better
view.

Looks like ebony to me ::shrug::

Hard to tell from a picture, but it looks like ebony to me.

If you really want to know for sure you could take a red hot pin and touch it to an inconspicuous spot on the scales and when it burns if it smells like hair or skin burning it is horn and if it smells like wood then it's ebony.

with out holding it, it is a little hard to tell, but pretty sure it is ebony because of the light grain in the photo. Water buffalo horn looks almost like glass when it is buffed. Nice what ever it is! terry

Nice one Harold,I like that stamped blade,it's age ,and the ebony.Dark ebony is becoming a favorite of mine.
