hey john, thanks, once sharp, edge retension is satisfactory, with occasional ceramic rod to allign the edges. i prefer carbon though.

Thats very nice Johnnie. Does making pointy ends on sticks with my pocket knife qualify as whittling?
Like edgewise, I can do a pretty fair job of sharpening pencils too.

I'm afraid sharpening pencils is about my level of expertise as well.
But, I like to make the point real looooooooooooong...just for fun.

I got a Case Seahorse Whittler (smooth orange bone they call it) from Lowes a few months ago. I did'nt like the color much but they were clearin out all their Cases on sale near the front door an this was the only Seahors they had. I got it fer $17. I figured it wasnt too bad a deal. I had a $20 bill to my name and after I bought the knife, I forgot what I went to Lowes for, so I got a Mountain Dew and couldn't buy nothin else anyway. I don't whittle with it, its sitll in the box. I do like to whittle on walkin canes a little bit. I'll try to post some pics some time. I'm real good at whittlin on cardboard boxes.
