Have been giving this GEC Northfield 85 some good pocket time lately. Love the blade combo with the big spear main and the small coping secondary, fits my needs well. The spear works great for food prep and heavier tasks, and the coping works great for opening boxes, packages etc....Nice natural patina forming on the spear, great knife.

I do like that Whittler, Dave. I can see why you carry that instead of the Rough Rider!

Strangely enough, I do not own a single Barlow of any brand. I do have a couple of Rough Rider Whittlers which seem pretty decent, especially for ten dollars: maybe I need to add a cheap Barlow or two.

This is what I carried today. I was working out of a kayak for a while getting soundings in an industrial pond so I wanted the Spiderco for quick or heavy cutting (did not need it), the Rough Rider Whittler for minor stuff, the Garrett Wade in case I found some unusual flowers and wanted photographs showing their size.

Rough Rider is pretty darn good for what they cost.
But I like Carbon steel. And the Humpback has sunken joints!
I actually used it yesterday to clean up the area on my thumb that the electric chainsaw boogered.

Ben Hogan the golfer had nothing to do with knives, as far as I know, but Ben Hogan, "The Wickedest man in the world", thats another story.

This is from the label that GEC used on their SARPNT knife many moons ago.

"But also for other legends such as the famous free flowing Grandin Oil Well from the oil boom days of the late 1800’s, and the nefarious Ben Hogan, know as the wickedest man in the world.” Who was said to have held parties near Tidioute on Babylon Hill with his girlfriend, red haired French Kate."

There is more to it than that, but thats where Ben and Kate are mention, also Kate has a knife too, the #28 French Kate, AKA the lady leg.

Thanks GD my friend! I like it also. The swing guard was also removed in the process to file work that area on the tang spine to carry the filework all the way thru. Can't see in that pic though. She came back even prettier and nice and tight. Although the CASE swing guard is my favorite, I have no patience for a loose swing guard or blade. Great work by a good friend!

The XX 6165 Worm Groove Green Bone Hunter as a pocket (not sheath) carry. Not much you can't do with this big knife. Sharp as hell too.

Wow Jerry, that is some gorgeous bone on that hunter! Do you have a pic of the other side? Great colors and textures...has a definite "stag-ish" appearance to it....bet it's nice and grippy in the hand too.

Thanks Mike! It is a scarce knife in my opinion. Nice high pull and beautiful worm groove and jigged green bone. Green bone in XX is scarce enough as you know but this color of green bone even more. Only seen one other with that color, a near mint TESTED 6299 with a big ole' spear that I own. That good old CASE steel takes and holds a great edge.

I found her hiding in one of the AAPK store here about 6 months or so ago. I asked for Steve's opinion (Thanks Steve) on it before I pulled the trigger and he gave it a thumbs up. Just had never seen that color in XX so I had to ask him. We couldn't tell from the pics if it was second cut (or first) stag or bone due to the pics. Definitely bone and not a common color. Sure is a beautiful and useful EDC, that is for sure my friend.
