hammer brand

i am curiousabout the old hammer brand knife co. was it related to schrade or walden knives?

From what I have read, Hammer Brand knives was owned by Imperial Knife Company, out of Providence, RI. Only reason I know is I own 2 hammer brands, which both are very worn out! But did the research anyways out of curiousity. Don't think they rate very high as far as collectability.

hammer brand was owned by imperial sometime after 1932 i think. before that it was in walden, new york.that is why i thought tre may be some link

The Hammer Brand was the property of the New York Knife Company, located in Walden, New York. The New York Knife Company was in business from around 1878 until 1932.
Shortly after New York Knife closed, Imperial Knife Company of Providence, Rhode Island, revived the Hammer brand and used it mainly on it's shell handled knives. Imperial eventually morphed into the Imperial-Schrade Corporation in Ellenville, New York.....until it's unfortunate demise in 2004.

thanks for the information. i guess hammer brand are'nt real collectable, but i just like the colorful handles on some of the older ones.

A basic guide you can use to give you an idea of collectability is Thirteenth Edition Official Price Guide to Collector Knives.
There is a Fourteenth edition out which I have on order, but they have a section on knife Brands of the world. They have a Star Rating system that can give you an idea the collectability of your knife.
If you get a Hammer Brand made in Walden, NY it rates 3 stars, Providence, RI only Rates 1 Star, this is out of 4. It says that rating system is what is widely accepted.
But In my opinion, collect what you like, knives I think hold more value to the owner who enjoys them!

I found in my old 1984 price guide some info on Hammer Brands (now keep in mind this was in 1984)
Hammer Brand (New York Knife, Co.) Price Range was $15-$450
Hammer Brand (Imperial) Price Range $3.00 - $20

So if you have a New York Knife, it could be of some value!
