LC,
I love the 152 pattern. Here are three factory variants.
The bottom one is a standard 152OT with saw cut Delrin.
The middle one is in jigged Delrin.
The top one is the 152UH, the Uncle Henry version.

I think most everyone likes Schrades. ::nod::

Too bad things went so badly at the end. ::shrug:: ::tear::

I sort of forgot this one ( ones? ), but I really like the knife that is my current avatar. The Schrade Rogers collaboration. I'm pretty sure it's as close to a Richard Rogers knife as I'll ever get, and it's a fun
piece ( pieces? ) to own. A top notch collaboration, IMO.

Howdy Lynn C.
Looks like you had a good trip in more ways than One (brand)!
Looks like a dandy 152 and other Schwadies nice also.

Bill, I'm not familiar w/ the rodgers collab knife, anymore info or larger pics will be appreciated.
BTW, I forgot to mention one thing about the Schrademan on the bolster. Knfe was prettty grimey when it arrived, and while cleaning it, I thought the left bolster had a string of glue on it. After application of my super duper glue remover with no apparent change in the glue accumulation, I decided to look at it with a magnifying glass to get a better idea why it wasn't coming off! (duh)
Going Gray & blind at same time just isn't fair, is it?

Here's an Old Timer 25th Anniversary 34 I acquired a few months back. It doesn't have the Redwood box or other components to make it complete, but it does have an initial monogrammed on the serialized bolster. Not sure if it is an L, T, or J but figured be better to pretend it's a J than ask a jeweler or calligrapher and find out different!
From 1984, has antique bone handles, sterling shield & bolsters, 25th Annv blade etch, old style tang stamp.

More great stuff here folks. ::nod:: ::tu::

OK,
Here is a bigger picture of the Schrade - Richard Rogers collaboration.....

Image

A smooth GREEN bone handle, with a MOP escutcheon on each side. It features 4 different ATS-34 blades, which are all interchangeable. A great knife for a whittler...or great just to own IMO.
It came in a nice square box, with a black leather case, and the Schrade Rogers logo (and the Schrademan pounding on an anvil  ) on it.
One of my favorites.

Well, I finally made it on to the Schrade thread with thanks to Orvet and others for inspiration and help.
And I am now a proud member of the Razor fraternity, thanks to Dewman and others for inspiration and help.
This one has really shot to the top of my charts. Very well made in the USA.
According to the box, it seems owned by Taylor and made by Bear(single pin). I bought it from SMKW.
The pictures speak for themselves.

Congatulations Edgewise, I am glad you like it. I was hoping somebody would give me the "green light" on one of those.

Just thought I'd mention it.

Hey guys, I am not the world's greatest authority on Schrade. LT, in the Knife Lore forum, has forgotten more than I know! ::doh::

As far as the knife in question goes, the one stamped Schrade Walden and made by Bear & Sons, it should be judged on it’s own merits as a knife and not compared to a Schrade Walden made by Schrade Walden.

I guess it is like comparing an old Jeep made by one of the WWII contractors and one made many years later by AMC. Both had the name Jeep on the hood, but the one’s made by AMC were quite a different animal (so I am told). My point is the name on the tang does not insure that these new knives are the “same as” the old knives. They were made by different people, with different material, at a different time, and likely with a few changes in technology. I think the people are key in the equation.

It is like comparing an Old Timer made in China to one made in the Ellenville plant. They may look the same, but they are not the same. Some of the “new” Old Timers are made on the same machinery that made them in Ellenville. The key is different people made them with different material.

The thing I like about the knife you posted is that American workers make it in the USA. I don’t know what the quality of the Bear & Sons products are these days. In the 1980’s I ordered some in when I was managing a cutlery store and Bear was a brand new company. IIRC, they were called Bear Manufacturing then. I wasn’t impressed with their quality, especially the fit & finish, and didn’t reorder. I have no idea of the quality of their current production. They look good in the pictures. I would expect that the quality has gotten much better over the years.

My point is that your satisfaction with that knife is up to you and the knife. If it performs well for you, and you are happy with it, then it is a good knife. It should be judged on it’s own merits and not on the merits of a company that it is related to in name only.

I have a Schrade Walden that is made under license of Taylor Cutlery, LLC. It is made by Camillus. In bygone days it was not uncommon for Camillus to make knives for Schrade and vice versa. So there is a historical connection, but I don’t look at that as a Schrade Walden. I see that knife as a Camillus product, made in the waning years of the company. I do not compare it to the old Schrade Walden’s I have. If I compare it to anything, I compare it to other Camillus knives in my collection.

Like it or not, brand names in the cutlery industry get recycled. Just set down with a copy of Goin’s Encyclopedia of Cutlery Markings and read the history of Walden Knife Company, New York Knife, Schrade, Imperial, et al and you will find that many of the names go back even into the 1800’s. Hammer Brand was a brand of New York Knife Co. NYK went out of business in 1931, but the Hammer Brand was introduced in the 1870’s. Imperial got a hold of the name and used it on an inexpensive line of shell handled knives, (which I enjoy collecting). I even have one or two old NYK Hammer Brands. I don’t expect the Imperial Hammers to measure up to the old NYK Hammers. They are an entirely different knife made by different people, at a different time, using much different technology. But, I do enjoy collecting “old” & “new” Hammer Brands.

Your knife is much like my Hammer Brands. I don’t expect an Imperial Hammer to be of the same quality as the NYK Hammer. But I enjoy the Imperial Hammers for what they are, unique examples of cutlery history and the introduction of a new technology.

Enjoy your knife for what it is, not for what someone named it after.

That is my opinion on the subject.
I know some will disagree with me, and that is fine. I collect what I like to please me not someone else.

You have a nice looking knife, enjoy it! ::tu::

A very informative and persuasive post Orvet, which is why, if newbies like me can't depend on names like Schrade, then we'll just have to depend on names like Orvet, ::tu:: or if you insist, names like AAPK. ::ds::

USA Uncle Hank 285 Trapper.
Found at Hardware store, the lone USA model.
Exiled from the Schrade Case taken over by
Schraylorese imports. So I brought it home to
rejoin some of it's brethren. Somebody had to do it.
A bit longer and wider than Case 6207s.

My reason for collecting Schrade knives started out to be mostly sentimental, as the first knife I owned was a Schrade that my grandmother bought for me on my eighth birthday. I wish I still had that one. As an older kid I see the quality. Thanks to all for the wealth of knowledge and experience. I bet you folks can help me turn my "big pile of knives" into a real collection. Thanks, beetle

Welcome to AAPK Beetle!
Rusty, do you notice anything strange about the Orgill blade 's scrollwork? lol
Nice stag Bill! Love that 80OT Dale!
Been checking the DU oak handles for termites lately.
Figured better get some new pics while had them out being sprayed.

btw, if there is a way to load pics in AAPK forums from an online album pasting [img] or URL instead of browsing my computer pics, someone pleas clue me in. Tried pasting both into browse box with no luck. It's a lot easier for me to load from album site than from my puter, if it is possible, thanks.
