To use, or not to use. That is the question.

With this big GEC Primative Bone Jumbo Trapper coming, I'm not sure I can bring myself to use it. But, then again....I"m sure I'm going to carry it around just to be sure I get a chance to show it off to anyone I can get to stop and listen! I'm hoping it will have lots of "stress cracks" and character to it. I've already convinced a friend of mine in California to buy one. He's going to spring for one of the Jumbo Trapper Burnt Stag models too. Man oh man....decisions, decisions.

Then again, maybe I'll make a handmade holster for it and put it on my belt along with my Ruger .45 Colt Blackhawk when I take forays into the forest on my ATV. It certainly would be right at home in that atmosphere, eh? Something like Matt Dillion might carry. Now....where's Miss Kitty at?

Typically I never unwrap a factory wrapped knife to insure the customer gets to be the first to see it out of the factory. But I had some early problems with the 1095 getting stained by the etching acids and not being nuetralized completely (all my speculation, but a fairly educated guess).

Thus, I clean each GEC as it comes in and place it back in the tube with a layer of my own protectant. But I do get to see every one while doing this.

The moral to the story: In the future send me a note with your order if you are looking for something in particular on the GEC's; and I will do my best to accomodate. I have others that want just the opposite on the Primitive bones (no major stress lines).

Mike, I had no idea I could request a particular "feature" on my primitive bone knife. In case it hasn't yet been shipped out, YES, by all means, I'd like the most amount of "primitive" possible. Anyone can have smooth bone....but, if I'm going "Primitive"....I might as well go all the way.

Oh yeah, forgot to mention....my parents were both from Oklahoma. A little town south of Muskogee called Stidham. Forty miles down a dusty, dirt road. I spent many a happy hour as a kid with my BB gun on my grandparents farm....and fishing in their cattle pond.

Are those handles stabilised or do those stress cracks constitute weak points in the handle?

It's a shame they didn't put a lanyard hold in the jumbo primitive bone trappers. That would look sweet, big knife like that, hanging on my pistol belt, with a nice braided lanyard on it. Oh well....don't get me wrong, I'm sure it's gonna' be a real piece of work, lanyard or not!
