You might be a knife nut if you tell a friend or relative you just got a new knife in the mail and they look at you like you're some kind of pathetic loser and say, "Another one?".

You might be a knife nut if at the mention of the word "knife" in casual conversation, you go off on a ramble about the virtue of a particular blade steel or the desirability of a certain maker or pattern.

Or, if the mention of the word knife in casual conversation automatically sends your hand deep into your pocket to show them what you are carrying.

You might be a knife nut if.........

You presented to your friend a much better quality, VINTAGE Buck pocket knife to replace the crap chinese knife he normally carry's only to find out at the barbeque you are hosting months later he still has that junk knife in his pocket and you are annoyed......

I forgave him minutes later over a beer...lol

You might be a knife nut if........

You plan your upcoming vacation and purposely DON'T tell your spouse how you planned the trip thru Missoula and Bonner, Mt. so you can visit Behring Knives and Ruana Knives.... ::sneaky::

You have a Spyderco Endura clipped to your pajama pocket.
You buy 3 Buck 50th anniversary 110, just because.
You take a family trip to the Gateway Arch, and have to set outside because you have 3 knives on you.
You tell the ER doctor that is stitching your 11 yr old daughter's thumb "It won't be the last time", because she is a knife knut also.
All really happened.

You're probably a knife-nut if your daughter and son-in-law to be pick a date, schedule the church and minister for their wedding, book the reception hall and then realize it's on your knife club weekend, re-call the minister and reception hall and move the wedding to the next weekend so Dad will come. I told her when she told me about this that I would have missed the meeting for her wedding but my heart wouldn't be totally in it. I love my daughter even more now. This, unlike the funerals, only happened once.

You might be a knife nut if, when taking the family summer vacation trip to the Baseball Hall of Fame, you book flights from Texas to Pittsburg, PA, rent a car and drive to Cooperstown, N.Y. by way of Bradford, so you can tour the Case factory and museum on the way.

This year will be going to Maine, by way of the Hudson River Valley and Wawarsing Knife Museum. Wife even suggested the side trip to knife museum! Need to find out what else knife related to do in that area.

You might be a knifeknut IF.........................

People you may have met at various yard and estate sales only casually ask you if you've found any knives lately.
You just cut yourself on a knife that is suspended on a magnetic rack next to your computer table by reaching for the mouse that lies about 6 inches from the nearest blade point.
Half the wall space in your computer room is covered with swords and knife displays.

You buy a knife because the delivery will be a day you know your wife won't be home.
You have bought a knife and had it shipped to a friends house just in case your wife might be home the day its delivered.

Now this happens often.^^^^

Also:

If a buddy calls you to ask if you can come by and help him bury his beloved horse that's laying in the pasture. While in the process of hooking the horse to the track hoe, a knife is needed and you stop your friend because his cheapo pocket knife will not cut the strap that needs to be cut, so you do it for him with your knife. Then just after the horse is put to rest you bring up his knife issue again and hand him the one that you are carrying, to keep so that he has a decent knife.

Brian,
That's a great story! You did a good thing ::tu:: .
Years ago, there was an old lineman in our part of the world that was a real knifenut. I didn't have the pleasure of knowing him, but his reputation is one that reflected his feeling about a good knife. It seems that when a new employee was hired on the power company line crew, they ended up getting the grand tour with the old line crew foreman. Some time during this tour the subject of pocket knives always surfaced and the old boy always asked to see the new employees EDC. If the knife was a piece of crap he promptly threw it as far as he could and handed the new man a "real" knife to replace the one he just threw into the woods or creek! (Seems a little bit awkward, like if it was a sentimental knife or such ::shrug:: might stir up some real strong feelings :x .) Never heard of any repercussions, but that ol' boy was sure enough a purebred "knifenut"!

The only time my wife and I got to visit her brother in Arlington Washington, I scheduled our trip to be during the Oregon knife show. My poor brother in law got to drive us to Eugene to the knife show. He is now a convert. He must have a couple hundred now. I almost feel guilty about giving him the bug. They were here a week ago, and he pulled a Case XX stag trapper out of his pocket thats his EDC. Mark

That is a great testimony as to how much fun knife collecting is, as well as how much the OKCA show is!

The OKCA show was designed to be a family friendly event! ::nod::

If you look in the mirror in the church foyer and notice one sideburn too long, then use a pocket knife to trim it... right then and there.

If you carry a beater knife so you don't mess up your good beater knife.

If you ship knives to your work to avoid "the look" from the wife. (Only partly works due to credit card statement)

If your brother has ever said "Allen's idea of kinda sharp is 'cut your finger 3 times before you know what happened'..."

If you're half-way to work and curse outloud because you should have grabbed the stockman and not the trapper.

If you sulk all day because you didn't grab the stockman.

If you take the stockman to work and then wish you had also grabbed the trapper.

If you take the stockman and trapper to work and wish to heck you also had the SAK.

If you've ever been caught whittling on a pencil at work.

If you've ever felt guilty for hiding yor knife habit from the wife.

If you have more knives than articles of clothing.

If you can carry a different knife every day of the year and never carry the same knife twice.

If you take 2 minutes deciding which knife to use to cut something.

If you still morn that new schrade 8OT you lost 35 years ago.

If you've ever asked a total stranger what knife they had clipped to their pocket.

If you started teaching your kids about knife safety at 3 years old.

If you check the edge several times a day to make sure it's still sharp.

If you've ever stopped working on a home project and walk all the way to your bedroom because you have a knife in the safe that would cut that stuff a lot better.

Ok, enough for now...
