Help me ID this old CASE

Post by AlaskanGuy »

Hi guys....

I got this knife from an old timer that took me under his wing when I was about 10 years old, more then 45 years ago.... I did not say where it came from, and being 10 years old, i did not think to ask my old timer friend from the back woods... I was just totally taken by how great it was.... 7 years later, I joined the USMC, and my dad squirrled the knife away. Recently, I found it again going through a box from my dad, and started wondering about its age and such... It doesnt have the case markings I am used to seeing like on pocket knives and such.... If anybody could help ID this wonderful piece, and maybe give me an idea of value, I would be most grateful.

The knife is 10 inches long...

Thanks,

AlaskanGuy

Alaskanguy, that is a very nice knife you have there. The pattern no. is a 523-6, and the tang stamping dates it to the 1940-1964 time frame. You are very fortunate that your father had the insight to put it away for you. congratulations, Tim

Thanks so much....

I pretty much settled on that pattern number but couldnt find a thing on the case website that looked like how my tang marking was stamped.... I will pass it to my son when I am gone.... What kind of value do you think i should list on my home owners insurance???

Beautiful example with the early serifs type blade stamp and early round pommel. Chrome plating is in awesome shape. GREAT KNIFE!
