Tactical??

Not sure if this goes here...but it does have an edge, and could be of tactical use.

I've been working on this a little bit every couple of days and finally got it where I'm pretty happy with it. It came in 2 pieces, with the handle being unfinished. After fitting the head, I went to work smoothing, and bringing out the grain in the handle. Finished up with a few coats of
Howard's Feed-N-Wax.

For you talented guys, it's nothing. But for an "All-Thumbs" guy like me...

Bill that is one great looking axe. I'm starting to get interested in a variety of things like axes, and the safety folding knives. You sure did a great job on that.

Great looking hawk there Bill, I like what you've done. Hawks (axes, tomahawks, and other such tools) are really popular right now. Want to build your own, Craig Barr of Deer Mountain Forge Damascus has been selling some great looking hawks lately. I have ourchased 4, 3 different styles including a pipe hawk (real popular also), ah it will go unused, any smoke is bad for the body. I have had some real nice Damascus billets come from Craig. He's great to work with and I have never had a problem with his products.

I also located some really great maple with a heavy tiger curl to use as handles. I'm looking forward to having a chance to work with those, I'll fit them in somewhere. There's a way to make the curl really stand out by using muriatic acid on maple, yes, it needs to be nuetralized. It does make the grain eye poppin. If anyone is interested, I can copy the instructions from another site, I believe Chuck Burrows uses this technique. Here's a link to his site, you can see his work.

I just got started looking at this stuff with all this time on my hands. No, I don't plan on doing remotely as well as Chuck or Bill, I'll be happy if the head don't fall off.

question, yes I think Tomahawks belong in the Tactical Catagory. Alot of

guys over in the two Sand Boxes are carrying them. One of my favorite

Hawks is the Emerson designed CQCT.

Tactical Hawk-Spike

The Tactical Hawk-Spike is made from 3/8" thick high carbon steel. The edges are hardened, and tempered. But the handle is left unhardened for its shock absorbing ability. The Hawk is powder-coated tan over its entire 16.5" length. The head is 7.5" long with a 3.5" Edge face. The beard also has 3 inches of sharpened edge for hooking moves. The spike is 3.5 inches long from the center of the hawk. The spike is an Americanized Tanto shape and is sharpended all the way around. The Handle scales are 6061 T6 Aluminum that has been MIL Spec Type III Hard Anodized with a greenish tint. MADE IN THE USA! Sheaths are available
