Toughest Knife Yet

I used to think scout knives and whittlers were a bit daunting, but this little muffin with all it's curves, re-curves and protrusions almost had me speaking in tongues. It's not a pattern that i've ever fallen in love with, but I have a much higher respect for what it would take to produce these.
There was nothing strange about the off-gassing candystripe celluloid, but what was kinda weird, the only real damage it did, other then some discoloration, was eat the backspring clean in half. I fashioned a new spring and replaced the handles with some smooth bone and white fiber spacers. I thought it would sort of mimic the candystripe.

Here's the end result.

P.S. I took some time to go back through some of the older posts, you guys are doing some awesome work! Very impressive mods and restores!!

That looks really good!
I like the look achieved using 3 or more pieces to the handle.
They are really pretty simple but add so much to the look of the knife.

Real nice. Question for you. What material do you use for springs? Is it something you have to heat treat or can you just cut it and use it?

Glenn, if I can't modify a spare parts spring, I use annealed 1095, then heat treat it. I wish there was a cut and use spring material for slipjoints, but if there is, I haven't come across it yet.
If you don't have an oven, a chimney style charcoal starter works pretty good for heat treating. You just have to learn the colors and get the technique down.
