Whats your newest addition to your Buck family and why?

Hoyt Buck produced the first Buck Knife in 1902. Hoyt and his son Al moved to San Diego and set up shop as H.H. Buck & Son in 1947. Al Buck revolutionized the knife industry in 1964 with the infamous Model 110 Folding Hunter. The company's innovative history and attention to quality have made for many great collectible knives.

I haven't opened it yet, but appears to be just a standard black 110 sheath. Looks like the same one from my 2007 110.

"Why?," you ask?...
Mainly because I can't resist these old classics, when priced right -& this is my first "early" 110. It's stained but the brass is undamaged. It has been sharpened, but not excessively. No dents, gouges, or dings; an excellent candidate for buffing up.
Now, after about 5 weeks, my 110 has come back from the spa at Buck... I sent a recently - acquired 2 pin, no dot 113 as well.

You can't feel the lock on top at all when you're using it. It flips open easily but it's a little tough to unlock. I really like it.

Just piddling around this morning and ran onto this knife on eBay. It piqued my interest and I couldn't resist grabbing one. I think it's a fairly recent release. It's a Buck 288 QuickFire A/O. I thought Buck had named their A/O "ASAP" but apparently this knife has it's own label. All I have right now is the stock photo from the auction but I'll post some "live" pictures after it arrives. In the meantime here's one of the videos from YouTube.

Nice grab Jerry...looks like it would fill the hand quite well. How do you like the QuickFire deployment in comparison to the Kershaw SpeedSafe?

::shrug:: I won't get it until Saturday. It's thumb stud and I don't do well with those so I don't have high hopes for it.

Missed getting one of the yellow handled 303 Cadet's a few years back (didn't realize it was a limited run); found the last one in stock sitting in a gunshop yesterday - it's mine now. OH

Buck 288BKS QuickFire. I believe it's new for 2014.

The knife was delivered the day we left for R&R (I submitted a postal hold. It was supposed to be held but my regular carrier is on vacation, but that's a completely different situation).

The good --
  • It's a sturdy beefy knife.
  • Fast blade deployment.
  • Blade deployment is very easy for a thumb stud system.
  • Sharp out of the clam pak.
  • I like the blade profile and grind (personal thing).
  • Locks up tight & solid with no wiggles or wobbles.
  • Unlock is convenient, smooth and not a thumb buster.
  • Has a lock for the closed blade condition. Works good. Very solid.
  • Has a lanyard "hole".
  • Pocket clip is not overly tight.
  • It's U.S.A. made.
  • In my opinion, the price is very reasonable for a non-import. (I paid $27.99 shipped on eBay. $4+ more on Amazon.)
The bad --
  • To my eye, not a particularly attractive knife. Too many angles.
  • Doesn't feel particularly comfortable in the hand.
  • Closed blade lock does not operate smoothly. (Self correcting with use?)
  • Pocket clip has only one position, right hand carry/tip down.
The ugly --
  • Again, maybe self correcting with use but I have to think about my hand position each time I open it. I've tried several positions and so far I haven't found one that's comfortable.
  • Make your own choice but I can't recommend this knife.

HI, I decided to try a 110 chairman , the nickle silver has always worn well for me, and I surendered to the idea of Diamomdwood, it has to be better, ebony is great but not as durable, I think I'll like the cherry look with white pins and bolsters. George God bless

George -- Do you have it or are you planning to get it. I'd like to see one. The brass bolsters don't do anything for me.

The story is, I thought the Buck 722 Spitfire and the Buck 721 Slimline (Walmart exclusive) were the same, but they're not. Sooo back to the drawing boards or should I say back to the store I go. I never intended to have six of these, one of each color for each line, but I've been wrong before.

The green Spitfire came today and a gray one is on it's way.
