craftsman knife??

craftsman knife??
i have a craftsman model45563 knife aus6a made in japan it has a red rubber insert in handle. can anyone tell me who made it?/ ty

You're going to have more luck, in most cases, if you can post a picture or pictures of the knife in question, IMO.
In this case I can tell you Sears contracted with several companies, such as Camillus and Schrade, to make knives in the U.S.A. for them. Those imported from Japan could have been made by one of any number of Japanese companies, and it's unlikely that they (the Japanese maker) can be identified for sure.
The Parker's did have some done in Japan for Sears...but, I believe they usually have an eagle on them somewhere, IIRC.

Bill is right. If you post a picture, it is likely that someone has a knife from the same maker that is tang stamped with the maker's brand instead of Craftsman.
I know of no comprehensive list of Craftsman numbers & who made them. Those lists may exist in reverse, for example Craftsman knives made by Camillus or by Schrade. But I have never heard of a list of knives that tells which Craftsman or Sears models were made by whom.
Remember the history of Sears span 114 years (1893 to present) and they have used many companies to manufacture knives for them, as well as many brand names on their knives. One of there early brands was Wilbert (circa 1094, IIRC) and two or three different makers made even those.
It was true of some American knife makers, and it may also be true of the overseas makers, that the Sears buyers liked to have a bit better quality or extra features on their knives that were not on the makers’ brand name knives. I have heard it said that the Sears' brands of knives were often higher quality than comparable patterns made by Schrade Walden or Camillus. This may confuse the issue of identifying the maker of a Sears’ knife. Craftsman is just one of several brand named Sears used on their knives. The Craftsman brand was introduced about 1927.
To sum up my ramblings & try to answer your question:
If you have access to a scanner and can post a scan (since you cant post a pic), it may be possible to identify a maker of your knife. However, there have been so many companies that have made knives for Sears, it might be difficult even with a picture.

AUS-6A is a type of steel that is used in Taiwan and Japan. It's kinda between 440A and 440B if it's been cryo tempered, if not then it's similar to 440A but just a little better because of a small amount of Vanadium. Well, that just verifies that it was made in Japan. Almost always need a photo to make a positive ID on any knife. Good Luck!
